WHO AM I
My name is Alisa Chong, creator of PNR Golf Performance. The core idea of PNR was curated over the course of a decade. Unbeknownst to my younger self, a passion for fitness and career changing injury turned an everyday routine into a purpose, a drive, a mission.
I am a former D1 collegiate golfer with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology Wellness Management and minor in psychology. My coaching experience began as a small studio trainer, then to full time golf performance facility coach, and now specialist coach. I’ve had the great privilege of working with age groups from 8 to 84, beginner golfers, junior golfers, amateur golfers, and tour pros. Regardless of age and level there was one common denominator amongst them all: to move better, feel better, and score better.
As a Golf Fitness and Movement Specialist, it is my responsibility to assess, analyze, educate, coach and train every elite golfer and golf enthusiast alike so they become their own definition of success. With a background in TPI, FRC, strength and conditioning and CES, my approach is to prepare, not repair - to build strength through movement.
How it started
Why do I do what I do?
If at the age of 15 you could move perfectly fine with no problem one day and then during the middle of a swing feel paralyzed and can’t move the next day, I bet you would ask some pretty big questions as I did.
From that point on, the sights of the professional golfer dream faded further away. Though my body told me it was definitely more than just a muscular strain, I was told by doctors and practitioners that it was just a muscle issue. So I listened because they were the professionals and I was the child at the time. There were countless visits to chiropractors, therapists, sports therapists, and trainers, but nothing truly helped. I was playing “catch-up and fingers crossed, hope for the best” all the way through college. It didn’t take long to realize that some people don’t want to put in the extra time and effort if it won’t benefit them. However, there was one coach that strayed from rest and whom I learned from and viewed as a guide to further refine what is now my coaching philosophy.
“Coaching isn’t just a job title or a task to complete in a day, it’s a reflection of who I am.”
Upon the initial injury, I had become exceedingly aware of the language my body spoke. Because a few times out of the year and a few weeks at a time, I couldn’t move! So listening, learning and growing self-awareness about my injured body is what geared my path towards health and wellness. As a young hopeful golfer with professional dreams, there were questions that needed answers… and a lot of them. If what was already out there wasn’t going to help me, then I would take it upon myself to search, learn, try, build and develop a method that would help. And if it helped me, I want to believe it can help you.
I had herniated discs in L4, L5 and S1, and had right sciatic nerve pain. Because this relatively important piece of information was not found during those younger years, there was no way to properly train myself - I couldn’t because no one told me what it was! How do you train if you don’t know what you’re training for? Once the scans were done and answers were found, the proper preparation could be made. Finally..
The approach I take with coaching is a reflection of my character and beliefs. I take everything that I learn and transform it into something that can be valuable to everyone. So whether you’re 15, 32, 50 or 70 years old, physical preparation is vital to staying healthy and continuing what you love. And I am invested in you, to coach, guide, and support you closer to your goals.
I didn’t get the proper guidance and training I needed to get better when I needed it so let’s make sure you do. Get assessed, get answers, implement new goals, and put in hard work. A better day awaits.
